-
Unpredictable Seasons and Catches: Since 2020, seasonal patterns and fish yields can no longer be predicted. This has forced constant changes in fishing gear, making long-term economic planning impossible.
-
Infrastructure Sinking Under Subsidence: Homes and infrastructure are perpetually submerged due to land subsidence. Residents raise their floor levels every 3–4 years, yet the sea continues to reclaim them.
-
Dwindling Income vs. Rising Costs: Profits have plummeted while operational costs for fuel (Solar), engines, and equipment continue to rise, forcing many fishermen to seek side jobs to survive.
-
Ecological Degradation: Damaged ecosystems and the use of destructive fishing gear have worsened the situation; fish stocks are depleted before they have a chance to mature.
-
Unsupported Community Adaptation: Adaptation is entirely self-funded without systemic support. Fishermen must modify their own boats, gear, and strategies, as government aid remains inconsistent and poorly distributed.
